Makahiki offers the only Character Dining at Aulani. Characters are only out during breakfast which costs $49.00 for adults and $29.00 for children under the age of 9. Be sure to make your reservations early to ensure you get the date and time you prefer (we did see a dad and daughter walk up with no reservation and were told they could be squeezed in if they came back in an hour). Prior to Covid, Makahiki was a buffet meal, similar to other character breakfasts like Tusker House and Chef Mickey’s at Disney World, but now it is a three-course breakfast experience similar to Cinderella’s Royal Table.
The meal starts with a group photo opportunity with Mickey. Once you check in, you immediately get in line for Mickey pictures. I would say that when we got there, there were 2-3 families in front of us and it was not a long wait. After your photo, you go back to the check-in desk to be seated.
We were seated on the patio, which did have a cover to block the sun or rain, but was open for the view since it wasn’t in direct sunlight yet. There is also seating inside the restaurant with large open doors throughout.
During our meal, we took photos with Minnie, Stitch, Goofy, and Pluto, who came around to each table. Some characters had props, including the Stitch had a (plastic) raw fish in his apron pocket that he would hand kids to have for breakfast. Each character took the time to go around the table and get pictures with everyone.
